Martin Schulz is the new hope of Germany's Social Democrats. Since his nomination as their chancellor candidate, the center-left SPD has gained a major boost in popularity. Curious about how Berliners react to Merkel's challenger in September's elections, we stopped by Alexanderplatz to get some opinions.
“I think he’s a nice funny guy, but I don’t know much about him so.”
"No idea, no.”
“I think that there are two sides to him. He says a lot of things that sound nice, but might not actually work well.”
"To be honest I don’t know him very well um, but he’s quite a lot in the media at the moment and um, I don’t know what to say."
“I was always really impressed with Martin Schulz’s roll in the European parliament and have always admired the work that he has done there. I’m curious to see how that will transfer to the German national level, and I’m optimistic to see what he brings in terms of reforms to the SPD."
