John C. Kornblum

John C. Kornblum, Chairman and co-Founder, Friends of NPR Berlin

His career expands more than forty years of active presence in Europe, including roles as United States Minister in divided Berlin and from 1997 -2001, US Ambassador to Germany.   Upon leaving diplomatic service, Kornblum pursued parallel career tracks in business, consulting and political commentary in Europe and the United States. Kornblum serves on numerous non-profit boards including the American Academy in Berlin, the German Institute for Community Organizing (DICO), and the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. He is Senior Counsellor with  the international law firm Noerr LLP and advises a number of other firms including Boeing, Pfizer and Genomichealth.  In 2013 he jointly established the John F. Kennedy Atlantic Forum, a private, non-profit organization which stimulates a trans-Atlantic dialogue among entrepreneurs.

Karen Roth

Karen Roth, co-Founder, Friends of NPR Berlin

Prior to founding Friends of NPR Berlin, she was an Operating Partner at the Silicon Valley venture capital firm, Greylock Partners, where her portfolio companies included Successfactors, Wily Technology, Mobile Automation and AtHoc.  Karen has been Vice President of Wireless at AskJeeves and Chief Financial Officer at Net Effect Systems. She started her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where as a Senior Manager, she developed the Southern California Internet practice servicing clients such as GeoCities and Kingston Technology. Karen earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Loyola College. Currently, she is an Advisory Board member of Axel Springer Plug & Play, hub:raum and the Wye.  Karen is also a Senior Advisor to the American Academy in Berlin. She resides in Berlin with her family.

Susan Woosley

Susan Woosley, Marketing & Operations Manager, Friends of NPR Berlin

Susan joined the Friends of NPR Berlin in November 2014, as Marketing & Operations Manager. In her role, Susan develops marketing strategy & campaigns, including related social media and membership activities. She also assists with organizational planning, including the implementation of operational processes and policies. Prior to joining Friends of NPR Berlin, Susan worked at The American Academy in Berlin, serving as central liaison between the Executive Director and the Development, Communications and Program teams, coordinating daily operational activities and deliverables. Susan has worked in public relations and communications, as Knowledge Specialist and Media Associate for Burson-Marsteller in Washington DC and Miami, and has a strong background in events management, where she organised  outreach activities and conferences with US federal agencies for the Arizona power and water utility, Salt River Project (SRP). Upon her return to Berlin, she began working for Daimler Financial Services in 2003, expanding her international business acumen with roles in the regional and global headquarters offices for Human Resources Europe and IT Management, respectively. The daughter of a US Foreign Service employee, Susan grew up in Tehran and Berlin and cut her working teeth with summer jobs at US Embassies and Missions in West Berlin, Vienna and Warsaw. She studied German & International Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and attended high school at the John-F-Kennedy-Schule in Berlin.

Svetlana Stepanova

Svetlana Stepanova, Listener and Member Services Manager, Friends of NPR Berlin

Her tenure at NPR began in Washington DC prior to her joining the Friends of NPR Berlin Group in Berlin. She was a Business Development and Corporate Strategy Manager at NPR after receiving her MBA from the George Washington University and BBA from the Texas A&M University with a focus on international business. With over 10 years in consulting, finance, and media strategy, she also was recently a German Chancellor Fellow with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Together with the Institute for Journalism and Media Studies at the Freie Universität, Svetlana investigated public media strategies and a framework for inclusive journalism. Currently, Svetlana is responsible for expanding the NPR Berlin listener and online audience, including membership growth and services. As part of her duties, Svetlana spearheads social media activities.
